to be yellow or even red. They are frugally soluble in water but miscible with
ethanol and diethyl ether. Applications are known in the field of
agrochemicals, for example fungicides of the phenylamide type or herbicides of
the chloroacetanilide type. 2,6-Dimethylaninile is prepared by nitration of
xylene and reduction, followed by removal of the 2,4-isomer by formation of the
acetate salt, removal of the 2,5-isomer by formation of the hydrochloride salt,
and recovery of the 2,6-isomer by redirection.
